Recent history has shown that Liberian athletes only come together when a co-member is seriously ill or have died; that is very unfortunate. Athletes should not only come together at such grieving time to interact; we must exhibit social behaviors that interpret good sportsmanship.

In light of this, the vision of uniting all athletes annually regardless of the sport played was introduced. In September of 2013, a few former athletes adapted the vision and gathered with an intent to discuss staging an annual reunion with the ultimate goal of bringing former and present Liberian athletes, sports promoters, managers, entertainers and sport enthusiasts together and implement projects that will assist and empower athletes of all ages; thereby designing a strategic concept document that will serve as a guideline for future reunions.

On June 14, 2014 in the City of Philadelphia, the first Liberian Athletes Reunion was launched under the leadership of former IE/Lone Star defender Ahmadu Sarnor and his team of dedicated members who worked diligently and made the first reunion a great event.

Over the next few years, the Reunion has continued to grow and is becoming a household name in the Liberian communities. We are intended to host the reunion in all states in America and someday in the Republic of Liberia.

In 2015 and 2016, the reunions were held in the City of Minneapolis, MN after patrons from Minnesota won the votes of both years. This was a three-day event that attracted folks from all parts the United States.

In 2015, the reunion implemented its first project by providing medical assistance to two former players/coaches. The reunion paid their medical expenses at the locate health center on Bushrod Island and the ELWA hospital in Monrovia respectively.

This year, 2017, we will be hosting our fourth annual reunion in the great state of Georgia. This is expected to be the biggest Liberian sporting gathering in history. Additionally, we are expecting former and current athletes from Liberia, USA, Europe and Asia.

What began as one man’s vision has become everyone’s reality. Evidence from the last three years shows the willingness, support and the tremendous contributions by like-minded individuals to make this organization a success.
